Dear friends,

Here we are, almost in July. If the rest of festival season is as good as Fatherís Day Festival was weíll be in great shape. Of course things have been rearranged a bit this year, with NCBSís Good Old Fashioned Festival moving to August, but there are events in July to keep our bluegrass bug from getting too itchy.

Later in July, the 18th-20th, the Scott Valley Bluegrass Festival in the town of Etna, CA takes place. Bands include Carrie Hassler & Hard Rain, IIIrd Generation BG Band, Lost Highway, Ida Viper, Alhambra Valley Band, Anderson Family, Piney Creek Weasels and Siskiyou Summit. For information or tickets, visit

But coming right up, this next weekend is the Paradise Bluegrass Festival. Hereís what Frank Solivanís number one KOB lieutenant, Sharon Elliott says.

The Paradise Bluegrass Festival is taking place for the second year in Paradise, Calif. and Frank Solivan will be presenting a Kids on Bluegrass Music Camp and performance. This is a great opportunity to start another Kids on Bluegrass program so KIDS bring your parents to this festival and help get this program started. We need all you kids.

The event takes place July 3rd through the 5th. The time of the first rehearsal is10:00am Ė 5:00pm on Thursday. Time of further class rehearsals will be announced at the first rehearsal. Please come to the Paradise Performing arts Center Community Park, 777 Nunneley Road, Paradise.

There is camping available.

Children between the ages of 3 to 18 who can play acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle, auto harp, banjo, dobro, bass, dulcimer and/or sing are welcome. Emphasis will be on bluegrass, old time and bluegrass gospel. Even if you donít know this type of music, please come anyway. Itís easy and fun to learn. Auditions will take place at the first rehearsal and that is simply playing a couple tunes for Frank Solivan, Director. All students must be able to play or sing without the help of parents.

For information about the festival go to For questions about the music camp/ Kids on Bluegrass program you can contact Frank Solivan at 408-656-8549 or Sharon Elliott at 510-728-7613 or

Hope yíall can attend these and other bluegrass events is July. Donít let your season slip away!
