Music Camp Registration Opens

Yes you merry campers, June will soon be here and with it the CBA Summer Music Camp! This year the camp will run from Sunday June 9 through Wednesday June 12 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, California, followed immediately by the CBA Father’s Day Festival (www.fathersdayfestival.com). And check this out…….this year for the first time we are also running a separate bluegrass camp for kids aged 8-16 (www.bluegrasscampsforkids.com) that will take place during the festival. What a great week to go immerse yourself, your family, and your friends in playing, jamming, and listening to bluegrass, old time, and gospel music.

This year we opened early registration for the music camp, on December 15, so you could give the gift of music camp for the Holiday season. For that matter don’t limit yourself to the Holidays, give the gift of music camp for birthdays, New Year’s, Valentine’s, Groundhog Day, President’s Day, or just because!

We already have a core group of teachers committed for the 2013 Summer Camp. Some of our long time Bay area teachers are returning including Bill Evans as well as Jack and Molly Tuttle. Bill is one of the top banjo players and teachers in the world. He has played with David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Tony Trischka, Dry Branch Fire Squad, Mike Seeger, Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard, Laurie Lewis, Jim Hurst, Lynn Morris, Robin and Linda Williams, Kathy Kallick, Alan Munde, and Don Rigsby. Jack Tuttle is a popular and prolific bay area performer, music teacher, and author and performs with Molly in “The Tuttles with AJ Lee”. Molly, currently studying music at the Berklee College of Music, is already an established professional musician and a part of a new generation of performers in contemporary folk, bluegrass and American roots music and has appeared at Hardly, Strictly Bluegrass, Strawberry Music Festival, Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, and numerous other festivals across the country. Mandolinist extraordinaire John Reischman of “John Reischman and the Jaybirds” and band member, and master guitar picker, Jim Nunally, also of The David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, and Due West, are on board. Keith Little, a virtuoso on vocals and multiple instruments, will be teaching and will bring his experience performing with the Country Gentlemen, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Lonesome Standard Time, and currently with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band. Alice Gerrard, Tom Sauber, Brad Leftwich will be teaching. Each of these three fantastic musicians is a legend in the world of old time and bluegrass music and currently performs together as Tom. Brad, and Alice. But wait, there are more, and we will post updates on the website and by email over the coming weeks.

And here are the 20 or so classes we will be offering, 2 band classes (Bluegrass Band & Old-Time Band), 3 banjo classes (BG level 1, BG level 2/3, OT level 2/3), 2 bass classes (level 1, level 2/3), 2 dobro classes (level 1, level 2/3), 3 fiddle classes (level 1, BG level 2/3, OT level 2/3), 3 guitar classes (w/singing, rhythm, solos), 3 mandolin classes (level 1, level 2, level 3), 2 vocal classes (style, harmony). But wait……there might be more here as well…need I say that we will keep you up to date on the web site and by email over the coming weeks.

We have given you just a taste of what is in store for our 2013 Summer Music Camp and want you to come back to feast on more. You can check out the classes and teachers online at http://www.cbamusiccamp.org, register for the music camp, and read about it all in more detail.
