Hooked on Bluegrass

Michael Witcher

I've been surrounded by Bluegrass music ever since I can remember. My Dad and my brother started a Bluegrass band called The Witcher Brothers when I was two and a half years old. So there was always live music going on in the house. I grew up going to festavals like Strawberry, Fallows Camp, Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest, Grass Valley.

Despite all the festivals and shows I went to as a kid I didnt start playing Bluegrass until I was 14. I remember one evening my mom and dad and my brothers Gabe and Loren were all sitting in the living room playing music. I had just quit taking piano lessons a few months earlyer and wasn't really focussing on playing music. When they were done my dad asked me if I wanted to play the Dobro. My responce was "sure, whatever". That week he taught me my first song and about 8 months later I started taking lessons.
