Hooked on Bluegrass

Jason Carter

When I was kid, my dad played in a bluegrass band, and I remember going to see him play in different places around eastern Kentucky. When I was eight years old, I started playing the guitar. Shortly after that, I remember hearing Tony Rice play, and it did something to me. I heard the Rounder album by David Grisman, and really like the song “Sawin’ on the Strings”. Del McCoury was the next one that got to me. I heard Del when I was about fifteen, and it was all over then; that hook was sunk.
