Hooked on Bluegrass
Dale Ann Bradley
I was raised in the hills of Kentucky, down in the coal fields. You can’t help it. You hear it from birth. I always knew about bluegrass, listened to it, and respected it. I listened to the Stanley Brothers, who were really popular in my area.
When I got to be about the 8th grade, I got hooked on the The Seldom Scene. Just blew my mind. Country Gentlemen, Emmy Lou Harris, Ricky Skaggs. And of course, Dolly had always had a flavor. I couldn’t always get a hold of a lot of music because we were so rural. The banjo is what knocked me out. I LOVED the banjo. I loved it all after I got into it. But, the banjo just did something to me. Like a telecaster.
