Hooked on Bluegrass

Bill Chapman

The first time I heard bluegrass was listening to a couple friends that played old time. They would do what they called a bluegrass song now and then. We were living in Denver at the time and we went to this restaurant called “The Monastery”. Kind of a weird place; everything is dark, and the ones who served the food were wearing cloaks, so you couldn’t tell who was who. “Hot Rize” had a regular gig there. That was when they were kind of in their formulative years. We went to see them, and really liked them. They played there every couple of weeks, and we just kept going back. I guess listening to them really sunk the hook.
