Hooked on Bluegrass

Alan Bartram

I got hooked on bluegrass when I attended the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival, which is held in Woodstown New Jersey. That was in 1996. I went there with an aunt and uncle who had been into bluegrass for a long time. My uncle had actually played bluegrass in a regional band. So he got me listening to some different artists.

I liked listening to that music, but going to the festival, jamming with people, and getting to see the people I had been listening to on record on stage was a defining moment for me. Especially getting to see entertainers play and sing up close, as was the case when Danny Paisley came to my uncles’ campsite to play. That just blew my mind.
