Hooked on Bluegrass
Kristin Scott Benson
I grew up surrounded by the music, so it is hard to identify a single occasion that I became hooked on bluegrass, but the event that really ignited my desire was seeing Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver in 1985. I was nine years old.
Doyle had recently reformed the band with Scott Vestal on banjo, Russell Moore on guitar, and Curtis Vestal on bass. All those young guys on stage with Doyle really caught my eye. The crowd that was there to see them play was just electric. I could tell right away it was going to be a great concert, and it was. Scott Vestal's banjo-playing really inspired me, and for the first time I got seriously excited about the music. If I had to name one incident that got me interested, that would be it.
