The long wait is over. This is the week that we've all been waiting for, as just about everyone is packing for or is already in Grass Valley for the CBA’s 33rd Annual Father’s Day Festival that runs from the 12th-15th. It is the bluegrass highlight of the year out here in CA, and a grand time is sure to be had by all. Some of the acts you can see at the fest are Blue Highway, Bradley Walker, Grasstowne, Dan Tyminski Band, Crooked Still, Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys, Jeanie & Chuck Poling, Blue & Lonesome and Sidesaddle. There are also workshops, (seemingly endless) jamming, kids on bluegrass, and a whole lot more. If you’ve been on the fence about going, it is time to get down and start making plans to head up there. The Bluegrass Police will be noting the names of those not attending...

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 7:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Bluegrass in Moss Landing -- Every Monday and Wednesday night at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing you can experience live bluegrass. See The Courthouse Ramblers tonight from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Bluegrass in SF -- Amnesia is the place to go tonight to see Toshio Hirano play starting at 8:30 p.m.

Jammin’ in Corona -- There is a bluegrass jam on the second and fourth Monday of every month from 7-10 p.m., so head on over on the 10th to the Crossroads Christian Church, 2331 Kellogg Avenue, in Corona. For more info contact Todd Holtkamp at or (951) 347-2597.

South Bay bluegrass barbeque -- John Murphy’s Carolina Special will be pickin’ some hot bluegrass to go along with the spicy barbeque at Sam’s in San Jose on the 10th from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Jammin’ in La Mesa -- The San Diego Bluegrass Society presents a jam on the second Tuesday of every month at Fuddruckers in La Mesa from 7-9 p.m.

Reminder -- There are two other festivals of note going on this weekend in other parts of the state. In Santa Barbara the Live Oak Festival on the 13th-15th features a mix of music including Nanci Griffith Dan Hicks and the Hotlicks, Mike Marshall and Choro Famoso, The Gibson Brothers, The Stairwell Sisters, The Cache Valley Drifters, The Bungee Jumping Cows and The Gove County String Quartet, just to name a few. Also on the 13th-15th The Huck Finn Jubilee in Victorville will present The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Blue Highway, Dan Tyminski Band, Doyle Lawson, Berline/Crary & Hickman, California, The Gibson Brothers, Chris Stuart & Backcountry, The Dry Branch Fire Squad, Sawmill Road, and lots more.

B. Judd, Bluegrass Philosopher -- “It is an undoubted truth that the less one has to do, the less time one finds to do it in.”
