Video daze. Country Music Television will be playing bluegrass videos on the 13th to promote the new CMT bluegrass blog. You can see and vote for Rhonda Vincent's video "Gotta Start Somewhere" as well as videos by Uncle Earl, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Mountain Heart and Dolly Parton. You can vote for 12 videos so vote for all of the bluegrass related ones. The voting helps determine which videos get played and how often. Go here to check out it out. Bluegrass in SF -- Amnesia is the place to go tonight to see Toshio Hirano play starting at 8:30 p.m.

Jammin’ in Corona -- There is a bluegrass jam tonight from 7-10 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church, 2331 Kellogg Avenue, in Corona. For more info contact Todd Holtkamp at or (951) 347-2597.

Bluegrass in Moss Landing -- Every Monday and Wednesday night at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing you can experience live bluegrass. See The Courthouse Ramblers tonight from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 7:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Bluegrass night in Chula Vista -- The San Diego Bluegrass Society is having its second Tuesday bluegrass night at Fuddruckers in La Mesa on the 13th from 7-9 p.m. During the karaoke segment you get to sing and/or play a bluegrass song with the host band, The Full Deck. Jammin’ in Loomis -- Every Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. you are invited to join the jam at the Wild Chicken Coffee House on Taylor Road in Loomis.

South Bay bluegrass barbeque -- John Murphy’s Carolina Special will be pickin’ some hot bluegrass to go along with the spicy barbeque at Sam’s in San Jose on the 13th from 6-9 p.m., and on the 14th see Diana Donnelly & The Yes Ma’ams, who will be entertaining you with bluegrass and vintage country songs. Catch a rising Star -- Renowned picker and teacher Orrin Star returns to northern California this week and next for a workshop and concert tour. Once described as “Arlo Guthrie-meets-Doc Watson,” Star was the 1976 National Flatpicking Champion, has appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, and is the author of Hot Licks for Bluegrass Guitar, a popular flatpicking guide. See him on the 15th when he’ll be doing a mandolin workshop at Hal Johnson’s house (info at in Sacramento and on the 16th when he plays a concert at the Fifth String in Sacramento; Reno is the place to be on the 17th and 18th when he holds both mandolin and guitar workshops; on the 19th it will be a flatpicking guitar workshop at Matt Russell’s ( in Sacramento; on the 20th Orrin will be holding a flatpicking workshop at Steve Swan Guitars in Burlingame; on the 21st it will be a bluegrass rhythm guitar workshop at The 5th String in Berkeley, with a mandolin workshop there on the 22nd, followed by a concert; on the 24th a bluegrass rhythm guitar workshop at Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, and on the 24th a house concert in Corte Madera (email for info).
