Hot fiddle -- If you are ever wondering around downtown at lunch time with your fiddle under your arm, hold on tight to the dang thing! A musician named Min-Jin Kym went into a central London sandwich store to buy something to eat had her 300-year-old Stradivarius violin, worth $1.9 million, stolen. Inside the case was a 1696 Antonio Stradivarius antique violin as well as a Peccatte bow, valued at $30,000. That’s one expensive sandwich…

Belle Monroe at Amnesia -- Monday the 6th finds Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys picking some bluegrass at Amnesia in SF starting at 9 p.m.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Jammin' in Culver City -- The New West Side Bluegrass Jam takes place on the first Monday of every month from 7:30 p.m. until it's over at Industry Cafe and Jazz, 6039 Washington Boulevard, in Culver City. For more info call Jeff Fleck at (310) 390-4391 or email at

Jammin’ in Bakersfield -- The first Monday of every month bluegrass jam at Rusty’s Pizza in Bakersfield is happening tonight. Taco jam -- At the Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. see Gerry Tenney, Gene Tortora, Neil Linden, Steve Swan, and Joe Ridout. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E. Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at

Bluegrass in Escondido -- In the San Diego County area the North County Bluegrass Association presents a night of bluegrass on the first Tuesday of the month, yet there is no band listed on their web site. Go over to Round Table Pizza starting at 8 p.m. on the corner of Ash and Washington Streets, in Escondido.

Holiday gift ideas --Here is the Almost Daily News list of musical holiday gift ideas. Buy mostly direct from the artists themselves and cut out the Amazonian middle man! This list is hardly complete, so if you are a performer or band, send me your CD info if you are not on here.
