Winter music camp -- For students of bluegrass and old-time music, the Second Annual California Bluegrass Association Winter Music Camp will not start for three more months, but now is the time to sign up for it. The dates are February 24th-27th at Walker Creek Ranch near Petaluma. The camp includes instructional classes, group practice and jams, elective classes, concerts and more. Waltzing in Appalachia -- Renowned composer, fiddler and violinist Mark O’Connor will be playing four concerts this week in the SF Bay Area with the New Century Chamber Orchestra in a show titled Waltzing in Appalachia. You can see the show in Berkeley on the 18th, in Palo Alto on the 19th, in San Francisco on the 20th, and in San Rafael on the 21st.

Earl Brothers in SF -- Monday night is bluegrass night at Amnesia in SF, and tonight at 9 p.m. you can see the Earl Brothers playing fine mountain music. No cover.

Bean Creek bluegrass -- Bean Creek will be picking bluegrass at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing tonight from 6-8 p.m. Great music and good food.

Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at jimmy351@aol.com.

Burrito grass -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. will feature Stacey Samuels, Ray Bierl, Alec Oyung, Ted Silverman and Tom Drohan. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass jammin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Music in the mountains -- At the Braemar Country Club in Tarzana on the 16th is the monthly bluegrass night, and you can see the Rocky Neck Bluegrass Band play. Most concerts at the club are free and you can purchase dinner (a pasta buffet, complete with soup, dinner salad with added chicken breast) for $14, served all evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. Bar service available. Ample seating and free parking.

Turn your radio on -- Tune into the Bluegrass Country show every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-noon on KMUD up in Garberville to hear Ken Jorgenson playing two hours of bluegrass and country music. Ken also is the owner of Blue Heron soft-shell instrument cases.

South Bay bluegrass barbecue -- What better way to celebrate the "transition" from the longer days and warmer nights to the shorter days and chillier nights than with a plateful of tasty eats and an earful of bluegrass a la Cabin Fever at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose from 6-9 p.m. on the 16th? They'll be joined by Seattle's own Dave Smith (mandolin/vocals) and Jerry Logan (bass/vocals). Cabin Fever is Larry Chung (banjo, guitar, vocals), Yvonne Walbroehl (guitar, vocals), and Bryan McClenahen (fiddle). Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Bluegrass night in Chula Vista -- The San Diego Bluegrass Society is having its third Tuesday bluegrass night at Fuddruckers in Chula Vista on the 16th. From 6:30-7 p.m. there is an open mic, followed by bluegrass karaoke hour from 7-8, and then more open mic from 8-9. During the karaoke segment you get to sing and/or play a bluegrass song with the host band, The Full Deck. Go to the web site to find out how to sign up.
