Cruising towards Isleton -- The 3rd Annual Bluegrass Campout in Isleton starts today and runs through the 8th, so most folks are either there or en route already. Let the pickin’ begin!

Start the month with Bean Creek -- Tonight there is live bluegrass being played at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing with Bean Creek playing from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and then on the 3rd see them play at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Bluegrass in SF -- Monday is bluegrass night at Amnesia in SF, but their site has not been updated for the new month yet, so tonight it will be a mystery bluegrass band playing at 8:30 p.m.

Jammin' in Culver City -- The New West Side Bluegrass Jam takes place on the first Monday of every month from 7:30 p.m. until it's over at Industry Cafe and Jazz, 6039 Washington Boulevard, in Culver City. For more info call Jeff Fleck at (310) 390-4391 or email at

Jammin’ in Bakersfield -- The first Monday of every month bluegrass jam at Rusty’s Pizza in Bakersfield is happening tonight. Hosted by Kelvin Gregory, the jam takes place from 6-9 p.m. and Rusty’s (in Von’s Shopping Center) is located at 5430 Olive Drive. For more information contact Kelvin at (661) 392-7973 or

Taco jam -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. takes place tonight with Paul Shelasky, Larry Cohea, Butch Waller, Chris Smith and Bruce Campbell. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E. Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at

Getting Kinky -- Irreverent Texas country singer and novelist Kinky Friedman and his band are touring the West Coast for the first time in 20 years, so see them while you can, because you never know if and when they will come this way again. They will be playing at on the 3rd at Fishlips in Bakersfield, on the 4th at Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, on the 5th at Studio E in Sebastopol, on the 6th at the Palms in Winters, and on the 7th at the Maverick Saloon in Santa Ynez. Yeehah!

Mintunes in Moss Landing -- Bluegrass on the 3rd will be performed by Jim & Louise Mintun and friends at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Bluegrass in Escondido -- In the San Diego County area the North County Bluegrass Association presents a night of bluegrass on the first Tuesday of the month, yet there is no band listed on their web site. Go over to Round Table Pizza starting at 8 p.m. on the corner of Ash and Washington Streets, in Escondido.
