Band vs. promoter -- This is a great Youtube cartoon for anyone that has ever played in a band and has had to deal with a promoter or club owner. It would be hilarious if it weren’t so painfully true to life! Thanks to Kathy Barwick for passing this along.

Ailing Ernie -- North Bay singer/performer (and one-half of the beloved duo Hoof Hearted) Ernie Hunt was seriously injured in a crash of his motor home yesterday while driving back from the Susanville Bluegrass Festival. You can read some Message Board postings about his situation here and here. If you have the time please send get-well wishes to him at his home address at 29144 River Road, Cloverdale, CA 95425.

New addition -- Congrats to Phil and Ivona Cornish who today became proud parents of a new baby girl. Kudos to the grandparents too! Phil plays mandolin in the bluegrass band Bound to Ride.

Humboldt Folklife Festival -- The Humboldt Folklife Festival in Arcata started on the 17th and runs through the 24th. Go to the site for more info.

Shed House in SF -- Monday night is bluegrass night at Amnesia in SF, and tonight at 8:30 p.m. you can see the Shed House bluegrass band, with Eric Embry, Jon McNeill, Rob White, and Thomas Wille. No cover.

Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at jimmy351@aol.com.

Bean Creek bluegrass -- Bean Creek will be picking bluegrass at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing tonight from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Great music and good food.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass jammin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Burrito grass -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. will feature Tom Lucas, Ran Bush, John McFarlane, Red Rick and Jeff Ward. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Turn your radio on -- Tune into the Bluegrass Country show every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-noon on KMUD up in Garberville to hear Ken Jorgenson playing two hours of bluegrass and country music. Ken also is the owner of Blue Heron soft-shell instrument cases.

South Bay bluegrass barbecue -- Cabin Fever will be pickin’ bluegrass, country and more to go along with the spicy barbeque at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose on the 20th from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Music in the mountains -- At the Braemar Country Club in Tarzana on the 20th is the monthly bluegrass night, and you can see The Brombies play. Most concerts at the club are free and you can purchase dinner (a pasta buffet, complete with soup, dinner salad with added chicken breast) for $14, served all evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. Bar service available. Ample seating and free parking.

Bluegrass in Moss Landing -- On the 20th at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. it will be bluegrass with Billy, Pete, Sarah (of Bean Creek) along with special guest Jim Mintun. No cover.

Jamvitational in San Rafael -- The Marin Jamvitational bluegrass showcase takes place at Whipper Snapper (1613 4th Street, between F and G Streets) in downtown San Rafael on the 20th. The restaurant offers “Cal-Caribe” food that blends Latin flavors with local farm fresh ingredients. The music runs from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The players will be Jill Cruey, Jerry Barush, Deirdre Donovan and other special guests.

Bluegrass night in Chula Vista -- The San Diego Bluegrass Society is having its third Tuesday bluegrass night at Fuddruckers in Chula Vista on the 20th. From 6:30-7 p.m. there is an open mic, followed by bluegrass karaoke hour from 7-8, and then more open mic from 8-9. During the karaoke segment you get to sing and/or play a bluegrass song with the host band, The Full Deck. Go to the web site to find out how to sign up.
