Summer reading -- While the great unwashed masses this summer are reading books about vampires, bluegrass and acoustic music fans are standing in line to buy the new book titled Blind But Now I See: The Biography of Music Legend Doc Watson by Kent Gustavson. Other music books of note that have been out for a bit are Still Inside: The Tony Rice Story by Tim Stafford and Caroline Wright, Man of Constant Sorrow by Ralph Stanley and Eddie Dean, and King of Queen City: The Story of King Records by Jon Hartley Fox.

Susie Glaze in the news -- LA bluegrass singer/songwriter Susie Glaze is featured on page 16 in the recent edition of The Sounding Board, CF Martinís monthly newsletter. She and her Hilonesome Band will be in the Bay Area next week playing a series of shows, including one at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley on the 15th. Go to her site for more info.

Bean Creek bluegrass -- Tonight there will be live bluegrass being played by Bean Creek at Samís Bar-B-Que in San Jose from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Bluegrass in Escondido -- In the San Diego County area the North County Bluegrass Association presents a night of bluegrass on the first Tuesday of the month, yet there is no band listed on their web site. Go over to Round Table Pizza starting at 8 p.m. on the corner of Ash and Washington Streets, in Escondido.

Bluegrass at Philís -- Jim & Louise Mintun and Friends will be playing bluegrass at Philís Fish Market in Moss Landing on the 6th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. No cover.

String summit in Weed -- Trista and Tashina Clarridge on the 7th will be presenting the 6th Annual Summer String Summit with Tim OíBrien, Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, The Bee Eaters, Brittany and Natalie Haas, and others at the Kenneth Ford Theatre in Weed starting at 7:30 p.m. This is one great show!

Blue & Lonesome in Berkeley -- Enjoy the Sonoma County bluegrass band Blue & Lonesome at Le Bateau Ivre in Berkeley on the 7th starting at 7 p.m.

Jamminí in Santa Clara -- The CBA sponsors a new jam on the first and third Wednesdays at Neto's Market & Grill at 1313 Franklin Street from 6-8:30 p.m. So on the 7th bring your instrument and your appetite.

South Bay bluegrass barbeque -- Sidesaddle & Company will be pickiní some hot bluegrass to go along with the spicy barbeque at Samís Bar-B-Que in San Jose on the 7th from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Jamminí in SF -- The first Wednesday of the month bluegrass/country jam on the 7th is hosted by Jeanie & Chuck Poling at the Plough & Stars in SF, starting at 8:30 p.m. There is no cover but you must be 21 to attend.

The Brombies in Burbank -- The Brombies play bluegrass on the first, third, and occasionally the fifth Wednesday nights at Viva Cantina in Burbank starting at 8 p.m.

Brothers in Berkeley -- The Whiskey Brothers will be playing their twice monthly gig at the Albatross Pub in Berkeley on the 7th starting at 9 p.m. They play classic Western swing, bluegrass and original music, featuring great vocal harmonies. The band includes local music-scene veterans Jeff Ward on mandolin, Dave Courchaine, guitar, John MacFarlane on fiddle, Bruce Campbell on bass, and Craig Fletcher on banjo. No cover.

Jamminí in Palo Alto -- There is a bluegrass jam every Wednesday night at Fandango Pizza in Palo Alto starting at 7 p.m.

Bluegrass in Moss Landing -- Most of Bean Creek plus special guest Jim Mintun will be playing bluegrass on the 7th at Philís Fish Market in Moss Landing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. No cover.

Bill and Megan on tour -- Bill Evans & Megan Lynch are on tour in northern CA this week, and you can see them playing with Steve Smith, Chris Sanders and Hard Road at the Freight on the 8th, at the Los Cenzontles Mexican Arts Center Summer Series in San Pablo on the 10th with Los Cenzontles and Snap Jackson, and on the 11th at the Music Near the Hearth House Concert series in Sunnyvale.
