All roads lead to Parkfield -- Moms everywhere and many others are getting excited and ready for the 12th Annual Mother’s Day Weekend Parkfield Bluegrass Festival that starts on the 6th and runs through the 9th, just about halfway between of SF and LA and east of Paso Robles. Some of the bands to see there are Don Rigsby & Midnight Call, The Rarely Herd, The Brombies, Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys, Dalton Mountain Gang, Black Crown Stringband, LeRoy Mack & the Bluegrass Gospel Band, Bean Creek, Kitchen Help, Salt Martians and Snap Jackson & The Knock On Wood Players.

Bean Creek busy week -- Tonight there is live bluegrass being played at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing with Bean Creek playing from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and then on the 4th see them play at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose from 6-9 p.m. They will also be in Parkfield this weekend. Jammin' in Culver City -- The New West Side Bluegrass Jam takes place on the first Monday of every month from 7:30 p.m. until it's over at Industry Cafe and Jazz, 6039 Washington Boulevard, in Culver City. For more info call Jeff Fleck at (310) 390-4391 or email at

Brewglass in SF -- Monday is bluegrass night at Amnesia in SF, and Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys will be playing their usual slot on this first Monday, starting at 8:30 p.m. As mentioned above, they, too, will be in Parkfield.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Jammin’ in Bakersfield -- The first Monday of every month bluegrass jam at Rusty’s Pizza in Bakersfield is happening tonight. Hosted by Kelvin Gregory, the jam takes place from 6-9 p.m. and Rusty’s (in Von’s Shopping Center) is located at 5430 Olive Drive. For more information contact Kelvin at (661) 392-7973 or

Taco jam -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. takes place tonight with Tom Lucas, Gene Tortora, Lynn Quinones, Stephen Breen and Scott Thompson. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E. Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at

Bluegrass in Escondido -- In the San Diego County area the North County Bluegrass Association presents a night of bluegrass on the first Tuesday of the month, yet there is no band listed on their web site. Go over to Round Table Pizza starting at 8 p.m. on the corner of Ash and Washington Streets, in Escondido.

Bluegrass at Phil’s -- Jim & Louise Mintun and Friends will be playing bluegrass at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing on the 4th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. No cover.

Tea and bluegrass -- On the 4th the Circle R Boys will be returning to Julie's Coffee & Tea Garden in Alameda from 7-9 p.m. Julie's is a lovely, intimate venue for music, and they have really, really good coffee.
