Summer music camp -- The CBA Summer Music Camp will take place at Grass Valley from June 13th-16th, just before the Father’s Day Festival, and classes are filling up, so get in touch today in order to reserve your slot.

New slow jam class at the Freight -- A new six-week session of Ran Bush's Intro to Bluegrass Jamming group class with Bill Evans co-teaching begins on Tuesday the 27th at the Freight & Salvage in downtown Berkeley. Classes will run for six weeks through June 1st from 6:30-8 p.m. Cost is only $130 for all six sessions. Banjo with Bill Evans -- East Bay banjo master Bill Evans will also be teaching a group Beginners' Bluegrass Banjo class at the Freight. This is a six-week class that begins on the 27th and runs through June 1st, from 8:15-9:15 p.m. All six sessions are only $120 ($130 after 4/19 registration). The class is designed for absolute beginners to those with just a bit of experience. Sign up now and get ready to roll…

Banjo ball -- In yesterday's SF Chronicle sports section columnist Scott Ostler satirically wrote about "baseball's more obscure unwritten rules." Here is one of them: "Unless he is looking for trouble, the on-deck hitter should try not to distract the pitcher by playing 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' on a banjo."

New band -- Loganville Acoustic is a new band on the Bay Area music scene that plays bluegrass, Americana and original songs. Its members are Leighanna Murphy on vocals, Bob Kolb on dobro, Jerry Logan on guitar and vocals, Robbie Macdonald on banjo and vocals, and a bass player to be named later. The band picks material from old country male/female duets, old country and bluegrass, and they have worked up some of Jerry's original material with three part harmony. Plan ahead to see them playing on May 14th at the Little India Restaurant in Redwood City starting at 7 p.m.

Barefoot Nellies in SF -- Monday is always bluegrass night at Amnesia in SF, and The Barefoot Nellies will be playing barefoot starting at 8:30 p.m.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 p.m. you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Ramblers in Moss Landing -- Tonight is bluegrass night at Phil’s Fish Market with The Courthouse Ramblers playing from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Jammin’ in Ventura -- Zoey’s Café in Ventura features bluegrass jammin’ on the second and fourth Monday of every month from 6-9:30 p.m.

Burrito grass -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. will feature Ray Bierl, Ran Bush, Chris Smith, Tom Lucas and Dan Large. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at

Turn your radio on -- Tune into the Bluegrass Country show every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-noon on KMUD up in Garberville to hear Ken Jorgenson playing two hours of bluegrass and country music. Ken also is the owner of Blue Heron soft-shell instrument cases.

Bean Creek at Phil's -- On the 27th at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. you can experience live bluegrass with Bean Creek. No cover.

South Bay bluegrass barbecue -- Windy Hill will be pickin’ bluegrass to go along with the spicy barbeque at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose on the 27th from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.
