Bakersfield bound -- To all of you folks that made New Year’s resolutions to pick more bluegrass this year, this weekend presents a great opportunity for doing such. The CBA 48 Hour Jam in Bakersfield will be happening on the 8th and 9th, and with the 49ers and Raiders being out of the playoffs again, no excuses will be accepted for non-attendance! Get ready to have some fun!

Notes from the road -- Bill Evans & Megan Lynch are in Virginia this week, filming a new instructional DVD to be called Play It Like A Pro: Bluegrass Band and Jam Survival Guide for AcuTab Publications with Adam Steffey, Tim Stafford and David Thomas. The dynamic duo also made some noise on a couple of year-end charts. Their song "Rocks and Water" was tied for number for #7 as Top Songs of The Year on the FOLKDJ-L list, and their CD let's do something... was #33 for Top Folk Albums of the Year on the same list. They will be touring in Washington and Oregon later this month, with a show in California on the 24th at the Stage Door in Mt. Shasta. More NorCal shows will be coming in March.

Start the year right with Bean Creek -- Tonight is bluegrass night at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing with Bean Creek playing from 6-8 p.m., and then on 5th see them play at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Jammin’ in Bakersfield -- The first Monday of every month bluegrass jam at Rusty’s Pizza in Bakersfield is happening tonight. Hosted by Kelvin Gregory, the jam takes place from 6-9 p.m. and Rusty’s (in Von’s Shopping Center) is located at 5430 Olive Drive. Jammin’ in Signal Hill -- Every Monday night, from 6-9 p.m., there is a bluegrass jam at Curley’s Café in Signal Hill. The address is 1999 E. Willow Street at Cherry Avenue. Everyone is welcome. For more info contact Jim Wieser at jimmy351@aol.com.

Burrito grass -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. takes place tonight with Dave Earl, Josh Jakus, Tom Lucas, Joe Kenny, and James Touzel. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

New jam class in Berkeley -- The next Bluegrass Slow Jam class at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley starts on the 5th. Led by Ran Bush, guest instructors include Bill Evans, Jim Nunally and Megan Lynch. For more info go to the link.

Bluegrass in Escondido -- In the San Diego County area the North County Bluegrass Association presents a night of bluegrass on the first Tuesday of the month, and on the 5th a featured band will perform, however as of press time the web site has not been updated yet for this month. Go over to Round Table Pizza starting at 8 p.m. at Round Table Pizza, on the corner of Ash and Washington Streets, in Escondido.

Bluegrass at Phil’s -- John Kael, Annie Staninec and friends will be playing bluegrass at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing on the 5th from 6-8 p.m. No cover.
