Del's influence -- There is an interesting story in the Nashville Scene weekly newspaper that you can read here about the Del McCoury Band and their penchant for jamming with others. In the story Del’s manager, Stan Strickland, says that the entire band minus Del will later this year be forming a jam band called The McCoury Influence along with Drew Emmitt from Leftover Salmon and Billy Nershi of String Cheese Incident.

Turn your radio on -- Tune into Peter Thompson’s Bluegrass Signal radio show in SF today when he will be showcasing Rustler's Moon with Kathy Kallick & Bill Evans in anticipation of their January concerts in Northern California. Go to KALW (91.7 FM) from 6:30-8 p.m. You can also listen online.

Oily contra dance -- Head on out to St. Paul's Church in SF tonight at 43rd Ave & Judah at 8 p.m. for a contra dance with The Roadoilers, Marin County’s favorite (and only) old-time band. Free dance lesson at 7:30. Calling will be Andy Wilson. $10 admission.

Square dance in Oakland -- Tonight there will be a square dance with Thompson’s String Tickers (featuring Eric and Suzy Thompson) at the Humanist Hall, 390 27th Street, in Oakland, starting at 7:30 p.m. This event will be filmed by PBS for a documentary special on Charles Ives. If you would like to be in the footage, dress in old-time style. No one will be turned away, but optional costuming might get your mug on TV.

Hoot in Santa Barbara -- On the first Saturday of every month, Chris Cairns’ Bluegrass Hootenanny is held at Jensen's Music, 2905 De La Vina, in Santa Barbara from 7:30-10 p.m. In addition to Chris himself, the hoot features a steady stream of talented guest musicians. Admission is $10.

Rice-A-Rowani -- There is a new instructional Homespun Video out this week titled Songs, Guitar and Musicianship with bluegrass legends Tony Rice and Peter Rowan. If you still need to buy a late Christmas gift for someone, this is it!
