Make the scene -- If there was ever a band that lived up to its name it is the Seldom Scene, who we don’t get to see enough of around these parts. Lucky for us they can be seen playing at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City, NV, on the 12th, at Yoshi’s in SF for two shows on the 14th, and then on the 15th they will be the only bluegrass band that will be featured at the Mendocino Music Festival in downtown Mendocino. The Tuttles will open the show at Yoshi’s.

Killer bluegrass from NY City -- The bluegrass band called The Five Deadly Venoms from New York City are making the rounds in the Bay Area this week. They will be at Amnesia in SF on the 6th, sharing the night with Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys on their regular night there. Then they will play at Amoeba Music in SF on the 7th, at Don Quixote’s in Felton on the 8th, and at BlueSix in SF on the 9th. Packed with world-class pickin' and some seriously classic tunes, these hard-hitting pickers psyched to also be taking place in the band competition at the Rockygrass Bluegrass Festival in Lyons, CO.

Jammin’ in Bakersfield -- The first Monday of every month bluegrass jam at Rusty’s Pizza in Bakersfield is happening tonight. Hosted by Kelvin Gregory, the jam takes place from 6-9 p.m. and Rusty’s (in Von’s Shopping Center) is located at 5430 Olive Drive. Start the week with Bean Creek -- The hottest bluegrass band from the Monterey Peninsula, Bean Creek, starts off the week with their normal first Monday show at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing starting at 6:30 p.m., and then on Tuesday the 7th enjoy the Beans and spicy barbeque at Sam’s Bar-B-Que in San Jose from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Burrito grass -- The Monday night Baja Taqueria Invitational Bluegrass Jam in Oakland at 8 p.m. will feature Dave Earl, Dave Walker, Annie Staninec, Chris Smith and John Kael. Have a burrito and enjoy the bluegrass.

Jammin’ in Alameda -- The place to be for bluegrass pickin’ on Monday nights is McGrath’s Pub in Alameda. Starting at 8:30 you’ll find familiar faces all around you on bass, mandolins, guitars, banjos and fiddles.

Blue Creek in Escondido -- In the San Diego County area the North County Bluegrass Association is presenting a night of bluegrass on the 7th with The Blue Creek Band starting at 8 p.m. at Round Table Pizza, on the corner of Ash and Washington Streets, in Escondido.

Bluegrass in Moss Landing -- On Tuesday the 7th John Kael, Annie Staninec & Friends will be playing bluegrass at Phil’s Fish Market in Moss Landing from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
