One week and counting. Something that you should plan to do with your one wild and precious life is to buy your early bird tickets before March 31st for the CBAís Fatherís Day Festival that will take place June 18th-21st in Grass Valley. Itís a win-win situation for everyone!

Lifeís railway to heaven -- Archie Green, noted San Francisco folklorist, musicologist and author of numerous books (including The Big Red Songbook), died on March 22nd in San Francisco. He was 91. Green is credited with winning Congressional support for passage of the American Folklife Preservation Act of 1976 which established the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress. Fiddliní around the bay -- East Coast fiddler Laura Cortese is on tour in Northern California this week. You can see her at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley on the 25th, at a house concert in Sacramento on the 26th, at the Cayuga Vault in Santa Cruz on the 27th, and at a house concert in Grass Valley on the 28th.

Cowboys in Moss Landing -- Tonight see The Trail Ride Band, led by none other than Peter Hicks, play cowboy music at Philís Fish Market in Moss Landing from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

íCue the Crows -- The Mighty Crows will be pickiní some hot bluegrass to go along with the spicy barbeque at Samís Bar-B-Que in San Jose tonight from 6-9 p.m. Reserve a table at (408) 297-9151.

Hoedown Throwdown in Berkeley -- Square dances are now being held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at Ashkenaz in Berkeley starting at 8 p.m. Tonight the Black Crown Stringband, will play, and Evie Laden will be calling. No experience necessary.

Fairfax Fiddle Summit -- Check out some fiddle players tonight at 9 p.m. at the Sleeping Lady in Fairfax, featuring John Pedersen and friends.

Jamminí in Paso Robles -- "Matt's Jam" takes place every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Matt's Music, 617 12th Street, in downtown Paso Robles. For more information call (805) 237-0054.

Puppy Studs on tour -- Whiskey Puppy and the Tennessee Studs are up north these next few days. Puppy, from Portland, OR, plays bluegrass and old-time, and the Studs are Amsterdam's best bluegrass band. See them at Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville on the 25th, at the Humboldt Brewery in Arcata on the 26th, and at the Stage Door in Mt. Shasta on the 27th.

Fiddles and more in Sonora -- Fiddle's Etc (old-time fiddle, country, bluegrass) will be sawing away on the 26th from 6-8:30 p.m. at Mike's Pizza in Sonora. For more information call (209) 586-2042.

Jamminí in Redwood City -- There is a weekly bluegrass and old-time jam on Thursdays at 5th Quarter Pizza, 976 Woodside Road in Redwood City from 7-10:15 p.m. The venue is music friendly, and food and drink are available. For more info contact Mark at rwcbluegrass@gmail.

Crabgrass alert -- The Bay Areaís popular crabgrass band, The Waybacks, will be playing a series of shows in NorCal this next week. On the 26th see them at the Little Fox in Redwood City, on the 27th at the Lark Theatre in Larkspur, on the 31st at Yoshiís in San Francisco, and on April 1st at Marilynís On K in Sacramento.

Fiddle contest in Oroville -- The Oroville Old-Time Fiddlers Contest starts on the 26th and runs through the 28th at the Memorial Auditorium.

Jamminí in Berkeley -- Thursday night is beginners jam night at the 5th String Music Store, 3051 Adeline Street, in Berkeley, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Laurie & Tom -- Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum will be on a co-bill with Rani Arbo & daisy mahem at the Laxson Auditorium in Chico on the 26th and at the Napa Opera House on the 27th.

Pickiní in Petaluma -- Ed Neff and Friends play bluegrass every Thursday at the Willowbrook Ale House in Petaluma from 6:30-9:30 p.m. There is no cover, and you get to hear some of the finest traditional bluegrass in the North Bay. The regular pickers are Ed Neff on mandolin, Mike Wilhoyte on guitar, Jeff King on bass, Paul Shelasky on fiddle, and banjoist Larry Cohea. The address is 3600 Petaluma Boulevard North. Jamminí in San Francisco -- The Atlas Cafe presents the best in live bluegrass and old-time music every Thursday night from 8-10 p.m., and on the 26th you can join in the bluegrass and old-time jam, now in its 11th year.

Jamminí in Sacto -- Every Thursday evening, from 7-10 p.m., there is a jam at The Fifth String Music Store, located at Alhambra & J Streets in Sacramento.
